In 1954 the Snelling family settled in Durbanville. There was nothing for the young people here. After some discussion with Mr Barnaby Brinkworth, Mr Reg Hepworth, Mrs Bill Foster (Edna May, but Bill Will) and Mrs Doreen Snelling together with advice from Mr Abby Rutter, it was decided to try and establish a Boy Scout movement in Durbanville.

THE 1st Durbanville Scout Group is worried about losing its scout hall and grounds if the City of Cape Town sells the land in De Villiers Drive to a housing developer.

Greetings to you from the rock climbing base camp on the “vlatte” just below the summit of the Tafelberg, 2007 National Senior Scout Adventure held in the Cederberg Mountains. Today began at 05h10 at first light followed by a quick trot to the demarcated area where there is a sign posted out with a sun dried white roll of toilet paper, placed on a thin cedar wood stick.
